Formula One returned after the summer break with a sprint weekend in the Netherlands, also the final Dutch Grand Prix for the near future. It was a disappointing weekend for Max Verstappen at his home race, crashing out early on with the track still slippery from rain that fell heavily before the race. The incident created a significant amount of debris which resulted in a red flag for the race. The two Williams cars also had a clash during the race, with Carlos Sainz picking up a 10 second penalty for causing a collission.

Lando Norris won his second race of the 2026 season, and now has two wins in a row, showing that McLaren have used the summer break to keep up with Mercedes. The weekend went well overall for Mercedes though, with George Russell winning the sprint race and Antonelli and Russell finishing 2nd and 3rd in the main race.

The title race is already becoming closer and more intense, with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton on the same number of points at the end of the weekend, as well as being able to close the gap to Kimi Antonelli somewhat. The constructors championship, however, is still looking very dominant for Mercedes who are 87 points ahead of their nearest challengers, Ferrari.

There were some changes made for the weekend, as Isack Hadjar has suffered a wrist injury and was not able to race in the Dutch Grand Prix. Instead, Liam Lawson stepped up into the Red Bull seat from RB, and reserve driver Yuki Tsunoda raced for RB alongside Arvid Lindblad. Both teams praised their drivers for adaptability and performance in new cars over the weekend.
